Throughout history we see all kinds of kings – those who rule through fear; those who sought wealth or glory and built empires; and even a few who ruled with compassion. Every king has a purpose, which determines the character of his kingdom. When Matthew begins the story of Jesus' birth, he doesn't focus first on Bethlehem, shepherds, or wise men. Instead, he pulls back the curtain and shows us why the King came. Before Jesus ever preached a sermon, healed a disease, or walked on water, heaven announced His mission. The angel's message to Joseph reveals that He came as powerful ruler, promised redeemer, and He came to have a personal relationship with His people (Immanuel). That’s My King!
